Donuts or doughnuts? To me it doesn’t matter what you call them because I’ve never met a donut I didn’t like. For Christmas I was gifted a donut pan from my brother and when the weekend weather called for snow I thought I give my gift a try. I decided on plain chocolate, chocolate covered with melted chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles, a plain spiced and powdered spices donuts. I have to say they were a hit! Check out the recipes below:
Spiced Donuts:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 tbsp butter
Process
- Preheat oven to 350F
- Grease donut pan lightly with oil, butter or non-stick spray
- In large bowl, mix dry ingredients
- Add wet ingredients and mix well
- Fill donut pan 3/4 way full
- Cook for 8 to 10 minutes– Donuts should spring back when touched
- Slightly cool
- Once cooled, toss in powdered sugar or leave plain
Chocolate donuts- this recipe I found online from bunsinmyoven.com but I just made a few tweaks!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 6 tbsp sour cream
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla
For Chocolate sauce
- 1 cup chocolate chips melted
- Rainbow or chocolate sprinkles
Process
- Mix dry ingredients together including chocolate chips
- In separate bowl, mix wet ingredients
- Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients until combined
- Pour batter 3/4 way full into donut pan
- Bake for 8 to 10 mins until donuts spring back when touched.
- Allow to cool
- Melt remaining chocolate chips in microwave safe bowl
- Spread melted chocolate on cooled chocolate donuts
- Sprinkle rainbow or chocolate sprinkles on top or leave plain or dust with powdered sugar!
